Configuring your laptop
Once your admission to the CentraleSupélec engineering program, you will be asked to configure your laptop before the start of the academic year and install the software necessary to follow the courses. This software is provided to you free of charge by CentraleSupélec.
Sometimes, the Fondation CentraleSupélec can lend a computer to students who request it. More information is on the Foundation's website.
System requirements
For the scientific software (notably Mathematica, MatLab, and Comsol) to function normally, your laptop must have at least 8 GB of RAM.
- OS: Your computer can be running MACOSX (version 10.11 or higher) or Windows10 64bits. Your OS can also be a Linux distribution, but in this case, you must ensure that the software works yourself properly.
- Ethernet cable: You must have an Ethernet cable (RJ45) of 1m50 or more to connect to the CentraleSupélec Very High-Speed network. If your laptop does not have a standard Ethernet port, you must equip it with an adapter.
- HDMI port: An HDMI connection is required to use the collaborative workspaces. You will need an adapter if your laptop does not have an HDMI port.
Recommended configuration to install all software
- Processor: Any Intel 64-bit processor (recommended i5 / i7)
- Disk space: At least 75 GB free space, SSD recommended. The software used in the course may take up to 50 GB.
- RAM: 8 GB
Software installation
Although most of the software that CentraleSupélec offers for teaching and campus life are Full Web applications, some software still needs to be installed on your computer. Some of them are required from the first day of the course, and must therefore be installed on your computer as soon as possible.
